Since a couple of years, it is possible to redeem Flying Blue miles on Oman Air flights. This is quite an interesting award redemption since Oman Air offers a fantastic Apex business class on their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The current welcome bous of 120,000 miles when getting a Flying Blue AmEx Platinum card is enough to cover a round trip from Amsterdam to Muscat!
Booking Oman Air With Flying Blue Miles
Oman Air is a partner of Air France-KLM since 2024 and at the same time, the airline also became part of the oneworld Alliance. Since Oman Air is now a Flying Blue partner, it’s possible to book amazing award flights with this airline. Oman Air is flying at Amsterdam since July 2025. A one way award in business class from Amsterdam to Muscat costs 52,000 miles. This is more than other award programs ask for this route but still a great redemption in opinion.
Oman Air operates the route to Amsterdam with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which has Apex suites on board. It’s considered as a pretty comfortable business class, especially when traveling together. Myself, I flew them short-haul about nine years ago during my visit to Oman which I consider as the jewel of the Middle East. Back then I looked forward to fly them long-haul.
Therefore, I redeemed 49,000 Flying Blue miles to fly them on the long-haul route to Frankfurt. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find award space to Amsterdam on day I wanted to fly.
On top of the miles, I also paid € 84,34 in taxes and fees which is decent compared to what Flying Blue asks with other awards like with KLM or Air France. Even on Etihad, the fees are high but more about that in a later article on this blog. My flight with Oman Air will be in two week. I also will be posting a review about my flight on this blog so pictures will follow.
How To Book Awards With Oman Air
Booking Oman Air Awards with Flying Blue miles is pretty simple. You can book them online on the Air France or KLM website. Unfortunately, there is also a downside with these awards. Unlike awards I booked earlier, Flying Blue doesn’t allow you to book multiple segments for the same amount of miles in the same zones. To get from Muscat to Bangkok, you need to book a new award. The total amount of miles needed would then be 92,500.
Please note that Oman Air operates this route with a Boeing 737-800. However, there are also long-haul aircrafts on the route to south-east Asia. The other downside is paying more miles even when all segments are within the same zone. For example, an added segment with KLM from Frankfurt to Amsterdam to my existing segment from Muscat to Frankfurt resulted in a higher number of award miles needed for my flight as well as for the taxes and fees. I even called a Flying Blue agent but they confirmed I could book everything they can book in the system. Therefore, it was better to book that Lufthansa flight with a paid ticket.
Bottom Line
Redeeming Flying Blue miles on Oman Air can be a great deal. Most people aren’t even aware of this redemption since the airline is not part of SkyTeam. Apart from the downside with booking these awards, you can book a fantastic round trip in business class from Amsterdam to Muscat. The total amount of miles you need is 104,000 which is already possible with just the current welcome bonus when getting a Flying Blue AmEx Platinum card! The taxes and fees would then be € 239,99 which is decent for a round trip in business class.
