Review: DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West

The DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West is a modern hotel that is centrally located in midtown Manhattan’s beautiful Time Square district. We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during Eastern weekend. When you’re lucky, rooms can be booked for around $ 150 per night. However rates are higher during the holidays. The DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West is a 10 minutes walk from Penn station and approximately 15 minutes walking from Time Square. The hotel is located near subway station Time Square 42 & 7 av with fast connection to the rest of the city.

Lobby And Check In

We entered the lobby at around 3pm. Although the lobby was a bit small in my opinion, the space looked clean and modern. After a whole group of people was checked In, it was our turn. There are no suites in the DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West and all rooms look very similar. As a Diamond member, my only benefits during our stay were complimentary breakfast for 2 and a welcome gift at the check in desk. We could choose from nuts, chocolates and Pringles Chips. As in all DoubleTree hotels, we also received the well-known American cookie.

2 Double Bedroom

As I was traveling with my mom and aunt, we booked a room with 2 double beds and these rooms are more expensive than standard rooms. After being arrived at the 33th floor, we opened the door of our 2 Double Bedroom which had room number 3316. I was a bit surprised by the small size of the room but that seems to be normal in New York. As the 2 double beds take a lot of space, I didn’t see any additional seating area I am used to in most hotels I stay. The bed itself was comfortable to sleep on and I liked the decoration of the room with nice paintings on the wall.

In front of the 2 beds was a furniture with tea and coffee maker and some drawers. Above the furniture was a flat screen T.V. with decent size. On the right side, I found a closet and small working desk that was perfect and comfortable to work on. Other amenities in the room were a mirror, fridge, iron and safe. Hilton provides free wifi to Honors members who are booking directly. Everywhere in the hotel, I was satisfied with the speed. The view from the room is truly amazing. While being on the 33th floor, we were still surrounded by skyscrapers that were even higher. We also could see the Hudson River.

Bathroom

Also the bathroom is of a small size. I found all the basic amenities I normally see in a bathroom of a Hilton hotel like soap, shampoo, washcloths and lots of towels. The bathroom features a sink, toilet and shower. However, there is no bathtub nor rain shower.

Rooftop Lounge

The rooftop lounge, called Love It, is located on the 36th floor and offers sweeping, iconic views over the Manhattan skyline. I went her directly the first night and really loved the views at night while enjoying a Gin Tonic. The lounge is a perfect place to meet people and they even offer parties here sometimes. The music can be pretty loud however so be prepared for that when sleeping on a higher floor.

Restaurant

There is a bar and restaurant right next to the lobby on the first floor. I had dinner here the first night and ordered BBQ ribs with French fries and a delicious red wine which tasted not bad at all. I took ice scream for dessert. The menu offers plenty of choice and I loved the friendly service here.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the same restaurant from 6:30 until 11:00 daily. The breakfast was free for me as a Diamond member and one companion. Silver and non-elites pay $ 22 USD excluding taxes and tips. Also during breakfast time, I experienced a friendly and proactive service. We had to line up a few times but once some places were available, a staff member took us to a place were we could sit all 3 together. The buffet itself looked very decent for a DoubleTree hotel. I found fried egg, pancakes, fresh fruit, croissants and other pieces of bread. No cappuccino could be ordered complimentary and although I didn’t ask for it, I guess they charge extra for it.

Other Facilities

Apart from the rooftop bar and restaurant, the DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West also offers a business center and gym which can be found on the first basement floor. Unfortunately, there is no executive lounge in this hotel.

DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West Bottom Line

We had a fantastic stay at the Double Tree By Hilton Time Square West. The hotel can be quite expensive, especially during the holidays but its location is perfect and you’re at most places in Manhattan in no time. I liked the close proximity to Penn Station and Time Square. The rooms are pretty small but looked modern and beds are comfortable like in every Hilton hotel. I loved the view from our room as well as the view from the Rooftop Lounge. The hotel offers all the basic facilities you’d expect in any other DoubleTree hotel like a business center and gym. Unfortunately there is no executive lounge.

As a Diamond member, I didn’t get many extra benefits during my stay, apart from some welcome amenities at check in and the free breakfast for me and one companion. Unfortunately, the DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West doesn’t have any suites. Everywhere in the hotel, I experienced a friendly service and loved the food in the restaurant, as well as during breakfast. Overall, I can recommend the DoubleTree By Hilton Time Square West, especially if you’re looking for a good place to stay close to Time Square.
