Review: Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a modern 5-star airport hotel that opened its doors in late 2015. With a 126 feet high atrium and rooms with view on the planes, the hotel is among my favorite airport hotels I’ve stayed at so far. My last stay here was in August last year during the Mysteryland festival which was a 20 minutes drive from the hotel. The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a popular hotel for business travelers and therefore rates are always higher during business days. However, we stayed during the weekend and payed about $ 150 per night for a standard room, not bad.

Lobby And Check-In

The hotel building is attached to the airport complex and is about 10 minutes walking from the arrivals hall and train station. After following the Hilton signs, you’ll reach the doors of the hotel lobby. The hotel features a large atrium which is even more beautiful at night. The seating are is set up in a nice way with different types of seats. Behind the seating are is also a bar.

I lined up at the check-in desk. A friendly agent welcomed me into the hotel and I gave my passport to him. The check-in agent advised me that I’d been upgraded to a Junior Suite thanks to my Hilton Diamond status which came as a pleasant surprise. After being informed about all the facilities of the hotel, we received our key cards and took the elevator to the 11th floor. When walking to our room, I noticed the view from above is even more beautiful.

Junior Suite

When opening the door, the first thing I saw was the sitting area. In front of the sitting area, I found a working desk with flat screen TV on the wall. The desk includes a multi-plug power strip by the wall. Right next to the furniture is the door to the bedroom. As the junior suite faces the atrium, there are no exterior windows for views on the planes. However, a view on the atrium is something I don’t see often in a hotel. The walls in the room are nicely decorated with Dutch paintings.

Between the entrance and sitting area s a coffee maker and minibar. Directly after entering the suite on the left side is also a second toilet. The minibar itself was filled with various types of beverages like coca cola and extra bottles of water. I also found alcoholic drinks like beer as well as some chocolates. The minibar features a detector which detects if a product is taken by the guests which then bills it to the room.

Junior Suite Bedroom

The bedroom is spacious and looks modern. I found a comfortable kingsize bed with a nice light decoration and Delfts Blue on the wall. Reading lights can be found on each side of the bed. Also the bedroom features windows with view on the atrium. In front of the bed is a second flat screen TV with on the right side a closet with safe. Hilton provides free wifi to Honors members who are booking directly. Everywhere in the hotel, I was satisfied with the speed.

Junior Suite Bathroom

Next to the bedroom is the bathroom which looked also very modern. The sink area looked very simpel, nothing special. I found all the basic amenities I normally see in a bathroom of a Hilton hotel with plenty of towels. The bathroom features a toilet and a total of two showers, among one rain shower and another shower in the bathtub.

Executive Lounge

The executive lounge is located on the 10th floor. If you are granted access to the lounge, you can open the door with your key card from 6am until 10pm daily. Diamond members can access the lounge anyway. Gold members need to be upgraded to have access to the lounge. The lounge is divided into different areas like a specious sitting area, a buffet, a working area with proper desks and a relax area with couches. In the back of the lounge is a small library. The windows are offering good views on the airport and its runways so you’re not getting bored here as an aviation geek.

The quality of the buffet has been improved over the past view years in my opinion. Breakfast is served here every morning from 6am until 10am and it’s a better place than the main restaurant to have breakfast as the lounge is much quieter. Throughout the day, you can enjoy snacks and beverages. From 6pm until 8pm, a selection of hot snacks will be served and during these hours it can be quite busy in the lounge. Make sure to grab your last snacks before 8pm, after that time it’s only beer and wine.

Other Facilities

Apart from the executive lounge, the Hilton Amsterdam Schiphol Airport also offers an indoor pool, fitness center, meeting rooms, restaurant, bar, business center and parking.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served every day from 6am until 10am in the main restaurant and is free for Gold and Diamond members. A friendly waitress asked for our room number and took us to a seat. Also from here, you can see the planes. The buffet offers a wide selection of food and beverages like croissants, bread, fresh fruit, a coffee machine and all types of juices. I went for a hot cheese omelet which was made for me. I experienced a friendly and proactive service here and got asked regularly for a refill of my cappuccino as soon as my cup was empty.

Although the breakfast area is quite specious, it can be crowded here, specially after 8:30am and therefore I recommend the executive lounge to have breakfast if you are granted access and like the rest.

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Bottom Line

The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is among my favorite airport hotels I’ve stayed at so far. As the building is directly connected to the airpot complex, there is no need to walk outside to reach the hotel. The 10 minutes walk to the departure hall and train station makes this a perfect hotel in case I have an early morning flight. I personally really love the atrium and stunning views on the planes from the rooms with exterior windows and executive lounge.

As I mentioned before, the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schipol is a popular hotel for business travelers. Therefore rates during the weekend are much cheaper most of the time. As a Diamond member, I was lucky this time to be upgraded to a Junior Suite. The suite itself looked modern and warm with nice decoration and Dutch paintings on the walls. Everywhere in the hotel, we experienced a friendly and proactive service. Therfore I highly recommend this hotel, especially because of its good price-point during the weekend.
