Hilton Honors Gold is in my opinion one of the best mid-tier hotel elite status out there. My favorite benefits of this status are the complimentary breakfast for 2 and the room upgrade which often results into lounge access. This hotel elite status is also easy to get thanks to the American Express Platinum Card. I wrote about this more extensively in my dedicated American Express Platinum article. In this article, I go deeper into the benefits of Hilton Honors Gold.
About Hilton Honors Gold Status
Hilton Honors has 3 major elite statuses. These are Silver, Gold and Diamond. You already get some of the benefits when signing up for Hilton Honors. Since last year, Hilton also added the Diamond Reserve status. Hilton Honors Gold is a mid-tier elite status. The chart below shows all the benefits for each elite status.
As you can see, Gold status already gives complimentary breakfast and space-available upgrades. These are two major benefits most other mid-tier elite statuses are not giving. Also the 80% bonus points is not bad.
How To Get Hilton Honors Gold Status
The requirements for getting Hilton Honors Gold status are not that high. You either need 25 nights or 15 stays and these requirements are pretty low. It has to be said that the American Express Platinum Card also includes Hilton Honors Gold status.
I have the Platinum card for years and I never had to quality again to keep my Hilton Honors Gold status. The extra Platinum cardholder can also get Hilton Honors Gold status.
Complimentary Breakfast For 2
One of the major benefits of the Hilton Honors Gold status is the complimentary breakfast for 2. This has saved me lots of money during my stays at Hilton. Note that you need to give your preference to get free breakfast as you can also get 1,000 bonus points. That is only an interesting option if you want to skip the breakfast.

It has to be said that hotels the complimentary breakfast is not given at hotels in the United States. In stead of the breakfast, Hilton Honors Gold members are given a F&B voucher.
Upgrades With Lounge Access
Hilton Honors Gold status can give you upgrades when there is availability. If you’re lucky, you’ll be upgraded to an Executive Room. Staying in an Executive Room also grants you access to the Executive Lounge.

Most of the Executive Lounges have a daily happy hour with warm snacks and alcoholic beverages. Also the breakfast in the Executive Lounge can be better sometimes. At least, it’s way more quiet than in the main breakfast area.
Bonus Points And Free Fifth Award Night
Hilton Honors Gold members get 80% bonus points which is more than most mid-tier hotel statuses are giving. Like I mentioned before, when you want to skip the breakfast, you can still get your 1,000 bonus points.

You can redeem these points for free hotel nights. Elite members are getting the fifth night for free. This means that you can redeem points for 4 nights while getting the fifth night for free. I did this myself quite a few times like in the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang.
Bottom Line
Hilton Honors Gold status is one of the better mid-tier hotel elite statuses out there. What I especially love are the space-available upgrades which can result into access to the Executive Lounge and the complimentary breakfast for 2.
