Review: Marina Bay Sands Singapore

Have you ever heard of Marina Bay Sands? It is the famous hotel in Singapore with an infinity pool on the 57th floor. I have visited Singapore multiple times but I always stayed at different hotels. However, staying at the Marina Bay Sands was always something I have dreamed of. I had the opportunity to visit Singapore again last year. This time I stayed at this fabulous resort for one night and made this dream a reality.

Location

If you have ever visited Singapore, you most probably have seen this huge building. This $8 billion, 2,500+ room integrated resort is located in the Bayfront area, in front of the Merlion Park with the popular Lion Statue. The Marina Bay Sands hotel opened its doors in 2010 and the entire building consists of 3 towers. The part on top of these 3 towers is shaped like a boat and features the SkyPark infinity pool with restaurants and a rooftop bar. Although the resort offers a shuttle service from Changi Airport for its guests, I took a cab from the hotel I was staying at the night before.

The Marina Bay Sands is more than just a hotel. Besides 2,500 rooms, the hotel offers a shopping mall, a casino, a museum and multiple theaters. Something I really like is the ‘river’ in the building itself, it really reminds me of the Venetian in Las Vegas. Everything in the building looks so organized and clean. Note that you have to line up for almost everything the hotel has to offer like making reservation for theater or going for a drink to the rooftop bar on the 57th floor.

Check-In

At around 4pm, I lined up at the check-in desk. A friendly agent welcomed me into the hotel and I gave my passport to him. Unfortunately, the Marina Bay Sands hotel is not a part of one of the big hotel chains I am loyal to, so there was no other way than paying cash for my stay. I ended up paying almost $400 USD for one night but fortunately I was able to book my stay at Rocketmiles which gave me some cash back in miles afterwards.

It didn’t take too long before he confirmed I will stay in room 1376 which is located in tower 1. He also explained to me that I had free access to the infinity pool and that the breakfast is served every morning at 3 different places. From 6:30am till 11am in the Rise Restaurant in the lobby of tower 1 and from 7am till 10:30am in both the Adrift and Spago room. After receiving my key card, I took the elevator to the 13th floor. From there I had a fantastic view over the whole lobby. And at night, the atrium looked even more beautiful.

Deluxe Room

The room itself looked spacious and modern. In the middle, I found a comfortable kingsize bed and due to the mirror, the room looked even more spacious. I slept very well in this comfortable bed. Although, it’s not just for the room I stayed here, I noticed by looking at all the features that this is definitely a 5-star resort. On the left side of the bed, I found 3 places to sit on the sofa with a table. The room is nicely decorated with paintings on the walls.

In front of the bed, I found a television and furniture with a desk on the right side. It’s incredible how many light options the room features. To add, everything in the rooms is of the highest quality imaginable. On the right side of the desk, I found a button to close the curtains automatically!

Below the television, I found the minibar which was filled with almost everything I could wish in a room of the Marina Bay Sands, Cold drinks, beers, potato chips, chocolates and so much more. The minibar features a detector which detects if a product is taken by the guests which then bills it to the room.

The bathroom is located on the right at the entrance of the room and features a bath tube, a double sink, a toilet and a shower. On the double sink, I found amenities like washcloths, soap, extra shampoo and toothbrushes. On the right side of the double sink, I found multiple towels.

SkyPark Infinity Pool

After I was settled in, I decided to go to a place I normally couldn’t visit: the infinity pool. To enter this wonderful place, you need to take the elevator to the 57th floor. Make sure to take your key card with you to open the gate to access the pool area. Although the pool itself was not crowded, almost every seat around the pool was occupied.

Mornings are probably best to visit the pool as it is not that crowded yet as just before sunset. Although it might appear to be an infinity pool hanging on the edge like on the picture below, the pool does not literally flow over the edge. There is an extra edge a few feet below to catch water so it’s impossible to fall down from 57 floors… I had a nice time swimming around in this fabulous infinity pool and enjoyed every moment of it. I also loved the phenomenal view over the Singapore skyline, fantastic!

The view over the Singapore skyline from the infinity pool is phenomenal.

Apart from the infinity pool itself, the SkyPark also offers some whirlpools on the other side of the roof. Fortunately, I was able to find a comfortable seat and decided to take a look at the menu to order a Singapore Sling, my favorite cocktail in Singapore.

The Singapore Sling is definitely my favorite cocktail in Singapore.

Besides the infinity pool area that is reserved for resort guests only, the Marina Bay Sands has also a rooftop bar next to the infinity pool that is accessible for everyone, even if you don’t stay at the resort. Although you have to pay the entrance fee of $ 22 SGD (about $ 16 USD), which includes a free drink once you are on top. I’ve been here multiple times before and I’m always enjoying the ambiance and the views, especially during sunset when the light show starts.

Views like this doesn’t require you to stay at the Marina Bay Sands.

Restaurants

After sunset, I decided to have dinner in the Spago restaurant near the infinity pool. I was pleasantly welcomed and after I took a seat, the menu was offered. Food is not cheap here and it’s almost impossible to end up with a bill lower than $ 100 USD per person for dinner here. I decided to go for one of the delicious red wines and I ordered salad with a very special Singapore dish.

The quality of the food and wine was excellent! Also bread was served and while enjoying my meal, the friendly staff member took good care of me by refilling my glass of wine when it was empty. For desert, I took an ice scream with chocolate toppings which was very delicious.

As I mentioned before, the Marina Bay Sands offers 3 places for breakfast. I decided to have breakfast in the Rise restaurant which is located near the reception in the lobby downstairs. The whole area is nicely decorated and after I was warmly welcomed, a staff member accompanied me to my seat. The breakfast buffet offers a large variety of food and beverages.

There is a buffet for continental breakfast, Chinese breakfast and almost every kind of food you would expect in a 5-star resort like this. Due to the peak hour, it was quite busy at the breakfast buffet and people even had to line up to have access. Here again, the staff was really friendly to me and always replied with a smile.

Other Facilities

After checking out, I decided to store my baggage as I was flying back to Amsterdam that night. There is a business center right next to the lobby. Apart from free wifi, also food and beverages are offered here. The resort also offers a gym and personal training and sunrise yoga sessions for additional charge.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore Bottom Line

How I was enjoying my stay at the Marina Bay Sands! This was for sure one of my best hotel stays ever, together with the Conrad Bora Bora Nui. Staying at this resort was something I’ve dreamed of for many years. One of the things I liked most about the Marina Bay Sands is probably the infinity pool. I’ve never seen such a cool pool like this one. Although, I didn’t spend much time in my room apart from sleeping and taking a shower, I was pleasantly surprised about everything. I also was really enjoying the food in the restaurants and all the staff members where so friendly to me.

If you are ever planning to stay at the Marina Bay Sands, try to stay at the resort as much time as you can throughout your stay. The whole resort is a city itself and has almost everything to offer you need, including fabulous views over Singapore. But let’s be honest, staying here isn’t cheap and therefore most people stay no more than 1 or 2 nights at the Marina Bay Sands. You can see it as a once in a lifetime hotel experience. Although I wouldn’t mind to stay here again during a future visit in Singapore…
